joining at Girls high school

At last I passed my fifth standard. Now I had to join sixth standard. My second sister was studying in girls high school which was very near to our house.By the time I was joined in that school , she came to SSLC.Our building was oppsite to their building. Head mistress room, teachers room also were there only. In our building ,only sixth and seveth standard classes were conducted. First day I joined there were many students. Some of them were failed students. But they were not guilty that they did not go to higher class. They were arrogant and felt as if they were seniors and we juniors. I took new scalewhich was twelve inches to the class along with my books. With in one hour it was missing. I wept and asked every one. No one saw it. There was one such long scale but on it the name of one of the girls was written. On my scale I had not written my name. So Icould not claim it. I came home weeping but my parents did not scold me for losing it. One of our classmates gave it back to me after few my months after I became her friend. She admitted she had taken it and immediately wrote her name. But now she felt guilty for having stolen friends scale. So she returned it voluntarily.
To admit our faults we should have strength of character and she had it. She knew the value of friendship.

Lakshmi narasimha,Lakshmi narasimha

Oneday Iwent to my friends house,Ambikas house. while returning in alane Suddenly Igot afraid and ran home. That entire night Ihad a fit ful sleep and woke up afraid from sleep. My mother held me to her and slowly rubbing my back she was saying Lakshmi narasimha,Lakshmi narasimha. She was also chanting sri anjaneya, prasannanjaneya. The nextday she taught me a sloka which we had to chant everynight before going to sleep. It would ward off bad dreams. and any fears regarding bad elements. that is as follows
Ramaskandam Hanomantham
Vainatheyam Vrukodaram
Sayane Yasmare nithyam
Dusswapnam Thasyanasyathe
From that day till today I chant that sloka before going to sleep. I taught it to my children too. I dont know whether they are following it now also or not.Even when we had fever or our health was not good she would chant the same sloka.

watch stolen &recovered

Our house was a pucca house .Drainage system was covered. So if there were any blocks we could not clean it properly. After some time, some worms were crawling in the house which come from drainage pipes. And foul smell was also coming. So one day my father called two coolies from outside. They were recommended by his friend Pandurangaiah. THey did their work and gone. After they went, my brother found out that his wrist watch was missing. H etold my father. Immediately the workers were called back and asked . First they denied. But Pandurangaiaih shouted at them started beating them. I was afraid. I did not see such violence before. I believed them when they said they had not even seen the watch. But when he threatened them that he would hand over them to police ,they acknowledged and brought back and handed over the watch to my father. That watch costed rs25/ in those days. It was steel watch. It was the only one watch in our house. My dather gave his watch to my elder brother when he joined college . My eldest sister did not have watch. When she had clinicals, watch was essential. then my father purchesed watch for her. We did not even have alarm time piece. When my brother requested my father to buy alarm time piece, so that he can get up early in the mornings and study, my father replied that alarm should ring in our hearts. If we are afraid definitely we wake up at the right time inspite of alarm time piece ringing.

Anjamma contd

My uncle stopped her education after she passed her fifth standard in the village. When others enquired why he stopped her education he would say that he would marry off his daughter soon. Asthey were living in a remote village most of the families way of thinking was like that only.My father requested his sister and Anjamma to join in school. It was never too late, especially regarding education. At that time Ijust joined in sixth standard. She was about my second sisters age. My sister was studying SSLC. So she had to sit in our class if joined in schhol. Anjamma thought it shameful and she denied to join in school. She was a very intelligent girl. But all her intelligence was sidetracked because nothing to do sitting idly at home.
Anjamma and my second sister joined in tailoring during summer holidays. They learnt ton stitch blouses and shirts , bags , skirts etc.But nothing came out properly. Each was jealous of the other. Each thought that the other could not stitch well. Truth was no one learnt it perfectly or even in apassable fashion. My sisters along with Anjamma used to laugh so loudly standing outside our homes. Her brothers would not approve of it. I never understood for what reason ,they were laughing like that.

aNJAMMA

It seems that my eldest brother went to Vaviletipadu once after his school education. ANjamma was fair in complection and had very long hair. She was beautiful in a certain way. So they asked my brother for her in marriage. My mother refused it very strongly.Ther eare so many reasons for it. THey were looking down at us. My brother was still ateenager. It was not a marriagiable age. My eldest sister who is elder to him was still to get married. My brother was stilla student. He was yet to complte his education. So they were angry with my mother. So they would fight with my mather. One day my second sister was also shoutiung at them

Adilakshammattha

Adilakshmmattha is my fathers youngest sister. She was short and stumpy. Obesity was in the genes I think. But she was very beautiful .She was serene and calm. She had three children Radhadu, Nagadu and Anjamma. First they were living in Vaviletipadu.,then ongole district.I never to their village. It seems that an owl settled on theri house one day. It is considered a bad omen in villages. because usually owls live in out skirts of villages. So they left their residence and came over to Tirupathi. My father arranged for their stay in our adjacent portion. Our mama, Subbarao was very moody. H eused to get angry even for trivial issues. They were afraid of him.My father saw to it that he got some R7b contracts with his influence.H esold some lands at Vaviletipadu and with amount they were living. He was arrogant that he had money.Thier behaviour was high handed.Compared to them we were living very meagerly. So they used to talk to us children in asatirical way . I would not understand but my mother used to feel a lot.Our attha would behave like them , bUT ANJAMMA AND sUBBARAO MAMA BEHAVED LIKE THAT.

cockroach dissection

My elder brither was studying PUC.He was astudious person. He had atrunk full of books. While sitting to study, he would open the trunk and start. because by looking at the books he would be reminded all the the time , how much more time he has to spare to complete the syllubus. H ewas not coming with us anywhere. In this aspect, Vikky is similar,. Because on his birthday, myself, vinny and Lakky used to be onleave and go for a movie. But Vikky would go to attend his college while in intermediate. On Sundays my brother would catch hold of a cockroach and dissection like its mouth parts or digestive system. We used to be awed by that and collect round him while he was dissecting.During summer , we used to extend wire to upstairs and there hey would study. We did not have fan. During nights my mother used to carry all the food items upstairs on my fathers direction and we used to have dinner inn the moon light.

Mallikarjuna and Srinivasulu

My father was a headclerk in pwb. So naturally he ha dcontacts with many contracors. One such contracor was a Reddy from Vakadu ,Nellore district. his children were Mallikarjuna and Srinivasulu. Their education was not going smooth in that village. So he requested my father to keep them in our house and see to their education. At that time Mallikarjuna was studying 8th class and Srinivasulu 6th class.Already my mother was busy with looking after us and our needs. Still she did not object and they came to stay in our house. I think they were joined in municipal school. They had two iron boxes to keep their clothing. THey used to go to school and return. They were not sent to any tution. There was no special treatment for them. I think athey were just average students or below average students. Younger one was mischievous and was steling small small items and keep them in his trunk. We4 used to play together. After one year his father took them away and they studie in their village only. Mallikarjuna later married a doctor and they ha droaring practice at nNELOORE. i THINK HE TOO studied medicine .His younger brother did contracts like his father.

Kondapi THulasamma

Name of our attha was Kondapi THulasamma. But we children used to call her Konda Pitthula Semma. She would just laugh. She was jovial and tellus hilarious and mischevous stories. We would start laughing. There was more fun in the way she narrated than the actual story. She had ready wit. Once my father took me to Kalahasthi wher eshe was staying with her friends Subbalakshmamma and SubbaRamaiah. When I wentr there a boy was there. H ewas their relative. One day only two of us were staying at home . Others had gone out side on some work. H etold me to clean the house. I refused to do so. It seems that elders told him to see that the house be swept naetly by the time they returned. I was sitting in the wooden swing and swinging hearing songs in Vividh bharathi and he was sleeping the floor. Exactly at that time, my aunt had come and saw what was happening . Then she told that sweeping was girls duty and I had to do it. But I did not obey her. He was amild boy and I was adament.
Later AFTER SO MANY YEARS , he had an accident. Town bus struck him while he was crossing road to go to college and he died on the spot. I felt sorry for his untimely demise.

first time kondekkadam

Till that time I did not remember any trip to Tirumala. That summer, one day my father arranged for trip to Tirumala by walk. We started in the evening by 5pm.At first I was running. After half an hour I could not walk with the same briskness. My mother isn ahefty lady. She could not walk as fast as children. Some how we reached Tirumala by Midnight. It was so cold. mY FATHER DID NOT TAKE US TO ANY CHOWLTRY.Onthe road itself we cuddled and sat. My mother sapread a blanket and made me sleep. WE had bath with warm water. THey charged 25paise for bucket. Mother and father bathed with cold water only.We went into the queue. When we were almost reaching the main gate. someone was distributing smabar rice to the poor people. We were all very hungry standing and walking in the queue. We ate some time early in the morning. My eldest sister was saying that if they distributed that sambar rice to us also ,it would be nice. But no one heard our plea. At that time ther ewere monkeys and kondamucchulu eve in the temple premises.People were afraid to wear flowers for fera they might come and drag the flowers.THere was rush but there was not any stampede. We went near to the sanctum sanctorum and saw the dietyrelaxedly.THere were no volunteers to drag us out even before we saw the diety.
w hen my father took us to hotel for meals after darshan. It was bliss for us. In those days Iliked anything in hotel. It was aluxury. Even plate meals with only sambar, rasam and buttermilk was heavenly. In return we came by bus. EVeryone of us enjoyed that trip very much. That was maximum my father could take us for relaxation and outing. What with a single person earning as aclerk and maintaing the family respectably and educating all his children as doctoors except. He would have made me also a doctor if I got the seat.
We were not at all afraid of the darkness while walking and going up the steps even in that night. My father preferred journey by night exclusively because he could work in his office till evening . and also it would be cool during nights. At that time the waywas not covered up as now. So the steps would behot to walk during day time. Trip was nice.

gujjanagullu

Though there was only two years difference for each one of us I was the only one who was behaving like a child. Compared to me they were more mature than the difference of just two years. At home I used to prepare gujjanagullu. That means we light fire in a small extent by collecting small sticks and preapre actually rice in very small bowls which are used for playing. My mother used to prepare food on a large scale and beside that I too would play preparing gujjanagullu. Once , my mother was grinding on the stone for preparing kandi patchadi . I requested her that I would do it and she can attend to some other job. She reluctantly gave me permission. No sooner did I start grinding , I could not hold it and it rolled over my little finger of right hand.I started crying and mother came running and took me away from there and solaced me. But the nail came off and it took so many days for the new nail to form. But the beauty of the first nail was lost. New nail was longer and the shape was also not cute.I felt very much .

avva vacchindi

Avva has come to madanapalli now. At this age also, she strives for her children. Tomorrow,ie10/08/2010 is prasads 6 months masikam. She wanted to give me moral support in fulfilling the rites. So she came all the way from Talupuru to Madnapalli. Inspite of her loss which is is unimaginable, she is thinking of others plight and goes all the way to help in whatever possible manner. That is what mother is for. I am greatful for guesture of love and affection towards us. I bow before her magnanimity.
Actually she is not in best of her health. added to it is her old age. But her love over came all these sshort comings. She is always there when ever I need her. Thank you ,mother . Ilove you.
ASsoon as she came ,we had filter coffeeand then she relaxed. Then we talked about all the current affairs in the family like Lacchibabais BPand mohanbabais careless attitude.WEhad talked about Vasu babai, Ram babai,Manimala pinni ,Talupuru thirunallu and other miscellanrous factors. Now she is viewing Kotha bangaru lokam in Gemini tv.Every thing is ok and fine. Ihave made all the arrangements for tomorrow. So she is relaxed.May god bless us and our familes. ALLis well that ends well.bye

SRinivasulu

My father was a head clerk in Pwd R&B.My mother was attendig to entire household work without any maid servants. Myfather gave strict instructions to my mother that she should tell any house hold chores to us as our education might be affected adversely. He used to say that he would help her if need be . So my mother never used to tell us any work even in his absence.
In these circumstances , my father arranged his office peon to attend to daily chores like washing clthes, cleaning thehouse and utensils and othr extra works.Ithink we were not paying anything from our packet but even then he used to come daily and do whatever is expected of him. H ewas an aged person but never showed any displeasure if any for doing those jobs. His son was studying degree and he was confident that he would secure a respectable job after completion of his education. His son Chandra used come in his absence. He was ateenager. He used to draw figures of gods with chalk or pencil very well.
Once our mamathata came to Tirupathi to fulfil his life long wish to go to Tirumala by walk. Llongback ,he prayed Lord VENKATESWARA TO FULFIL HIS WISH AND it happened. Father sent Chandra to help him and accompany him to Tirumala. He was more than 70 at that time. Still he succesfully walked to and fro and had good darshan of the LORD.

Pacchamma

Pacchamma was my fifth class friend. She was living withher grand mother. THEY were living near to our house at the entrance of Gali veedhi. She was fair and calm. I dont know why she was not living with her parents or where they were.I used to go her house for playing. AFter completion of fifth class I went to her house one day and she told me that she was going to be married.I did not understand.Because in our house I was the youngets and I never heard my father talk about marriage to any one of us. I did not see her afterwards. I dont know to whom she had been given in marriage. whther her life was happy or did she suffer due to child marriage.
My another friend Mastan bi was also not allowed to go outside after fifth class. I dont know about her plight. Even in these days , we are hearing about child marriages. I dont know when they will bw stopped.Recently, I saw in paper that one grand father took kanyasulkam and gave his grand daughter to some one and they had come to compel him to marry the child. Father has gone to court that he wants his daughter to study well and come up in life ,. He does not want to marry off his daughter. But it seems local village heads would not allow this because in those areas girls are in demand. See wher ethe society is going even today.

cheekatlo bhayam

Mybrother ,chandra was afraid of the dark. When we are in one room ask him to go to other room sand switch on thelight also, he would not go.But he was fond of films. After returning from the picture, he would be calling mom and dad loudly from the end of the street corner.because in our lane , there was no street lamp and it would be dark from sunset time. He was afraid to walk in the dark. So my eldest brither or my father used to out and accompany him into the house. My eldest brother was studying PUCin SV ARTS COLLEGE. In his college , inthe Sunday evenings they used to show movies once in a time.Like that we went to see Santhinivasam picture in the open grounds of SvARTScollege. It was a very nice movie. Iused tolike ANRmovies very much in those days.

mooga manasulu

THe first movies Isaw after coming to Tirupathi were Mooga manasulu and Amarasilpi jAKKANNA.Iliked them very much. Inthose days my eldest brother used to like ANRmovies. Isaw these two movies nearly four to five times. Weliked it very much. The other reason was that our relatives like my uncle used to come to Tirupathi for Blaji Darshan. After that we used to go to movie. And that movie was most of the time Mooga manasulu only.Iliked Jamunas portaryal very much inthe movie. Even in the Hindi version she played the same role and got film fare award also.
Coming to Amarasilpi Jakkanna, first time we went electricity had gone after the news reel. nEWS REEL WOULD START AS THIS sUMA KUNTIDI KANI NADUVAKALADU. Meaning tha tartificial limbs can be attached. It was new i n those days. We waited till 8-30 and still electricity did not come. In those days there were no generators. They gave us coupons so that we could watch themovienext day.
Again the very next day, we went. Again the trailer -suma kuntidi kani naduvakaladu. Just the names of the characters came . Picture started with the song --ee nallani ralalo ye gundelu dageno and off went electricty. again we waited till 8-30. aGAIn they gave us tokens for the next day. At last on the third we could view the entire movie.I like devry thing about the movie. Iliked Sarojani devis dances ,songs ANR action, Harnaths voice, Vijayalakshmois dances.
Jayalalitha had a dance in that picture . It was her first entry in to movies. Later he became a famous and successful heroine. She enterd in to politics with the inspiration of MGR and became chief minister for many years after quitting movies.
Ilike dniluvuma niluvuma neelaveni song very much. Like that only I started the name neela ,neela veni very much. When vinny was borne I christened her Vineela. BecauseVikky name starts with V. Ilike thename neela very much. THus comes the Vineela.
